Our partner, a leading insurance group managing workers’ insurance and injured workers’ compensation claims in Australia for 110 years, is hiring for a
Senior Accountant! Together with their Australian partners, employers, medical providers, and customers, they drive industry-leading return-to-work outcomes and safe work initiatives.
As the
Senior Accountant, you will play a key role in the Finance team. This role underpins the sustainability and growth of the business, with a specific focus on generating accurate financial data on various high-complex reporting entities and providing effective analysis of these entities' financial information. This person will be directly reporting to the Finance Team Lead.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage complex reporting entities, including journal preparation, reconciliations, issue resolution, and timely month/year-end closings.
- Ensure strong internal controls and compliance with accounting policies and procedures.
- Prepare month-end reports with detailed financial analysis to highlight performance, variances, trends, and anomalies.
- Lead the preparation and timely submission of audited financial statements and support external audit processes.
- Prepare APRA returns and various regulatory reports accurately and on schedule.
- Act as the first point of escalation for reporting issues, resolving independently or escalating with clear context to management.
- Uphold integrity of the general ledger and reporting systems through strict quality control.
- Identify and recommend process, system, and reporting enhancements with a continuous improvement mindset.
- Supervise, guide, and review work of junior accountants; support onboarding and training of new team members.
- Collaborate with Sydney financial reporting team, assist in team capacity planning, performance reporting, and lead/participate in team initiatives.
Skills, Experience & Qualification
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA or equivalent certification preferred.
- At least 5 years of experience in Financial and Regulatory reporting, ideally within the Insurance industry or BPO/Shared service environments.
- Minimum 1 year of experience reviewing Financial Statements with disclosures.
- Strong knowledge of accounting, financial statement, regulatory, regulatory reporting, and compliance requirements (e.g., APRA, IFRS, Fixed Assets, Intercompany Accounting).
- Experience in process improvement/project management, liaising with external auditors and handling audit processes.
- Familiarity with ERP systems; Workday experience preferred.
- Exceptional analytical, problem-solving, and attention to detail skills for financial and regulatory reporting.
- Excellent communication skills (both written and verbal) and proficiency in MS Excel (complex formulas, pivots, etc.).
