The Design and Cost Estimator is responsible for preparing mechanical air-conditioning designs, technical layouts, and accurate cost estimates for new installations, upgrades, and retrofit projects. The role supports project bidding, value engineering, and execution planning by ensuring technically sound designs and competitive, cost-effective estimates compliant with project requirements and applicable codes.

Responsibilities

• Prepare HVAC system designs, layouts, and schematic drawings for airconditioning installations and retrofit works
• Conduct site inspections and assessments for existing systems in retrofit projects
• Perform cooling load calculations and equipment sizing
• Select appropriate airconditioning systems (split-type, VRF/VRV, chilled water, packaged units, etc.)
• Ensure designs comply with applicable mechanical codes, standards, and client specifications
• Prepare detailed cost estimates for mechanical airconditioning works including materials, labor, tools, and equipment
• Perform quantity take-offs based on drawings, specifications, and site conditions
• Prepare Bills of Quantities (BOQ) and cost breakdowns for bidding and budgeting purposes
• Evaluate supplier and subcontractor quotations and recommend cost-effective options
• Assess existing HVAC systems and propose retrofit or upgrade solutions
• Develop value engineering alternatives to optimize cost, performance, and energy efficiency
• Identify constructability issues and propose practical solutions
• Coordinate with architects, civil, electrical, and plumbing teams to integrate mechanical designs
• Provide technical clarifications during bidding, negotiation, and project implementation
• Support project teams with revised designs, as-built drawings, and cost updates
• Prepare technical proposals, cost summaries, and comparison sheets
• Maintain records of estimates, assumptions, and design calculations
• Assist in preparation of variation orders and change cost estimates

Job Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field
• Minimum of 2–5 years experience in HVAC design, estimation, and retrofit projects
• Experience in construction, fit-out, and renovation works is an advantage
• Strong knowledge of HVAC systems, standards, and installation practices
