Job Title: Canteen Chef

Location: [Factory Canteen]

Working Hours: [Shift / Fixed hours]

Reports To: Canteen Supervisor / Operations Manager


Job Summary

The Canteen Chef is responsible for preparing nutritious, cost-effective, and hygienic meals for staff on a daily basis. The role includes menu planning, food preparation, kitchen hygiene, and coordination with kitchen assistants to ensure smooth canteen operations.


Key Responsibilities

Food Preparation & Cooking

  • Prepare daily meals according to approved menu and portion standards
  • Cook breakfast, lunch, dinner, or night shift meals as scheduled
  • Ensure food quality, taste, and presentation are consistent
  • Adjust seasoning and portions based on feedback and consumption levels

Menu Planning & Cost Control

  • Assist in menu planning within budget constraints
  • Ensure efficient use of ingredients to minimize food wastage
  • Suggest menu improvements or seasonal dishes
  • Monitor daily food usage and report shortages

Food Safety & Hygiene

  • Maintain high standards of cleanliness and hygiene in kitchen areas
  • Ensure compliance with food safety regulations (HACCP / local authority standards)
  • Proper storage and labeling of raw and cooked food
  • Ensure kitchen equipment is cleaned and maintained

Inventory & Stock Control

  • Assist in receiving and checking food supplies
  • Ensure FIFO (First In, First Out) inventory practice
  • Report damaged or expired items immediately

Teamwork & Coordination

  • Supervise kitchen helpers or assistants
  • Ensure smooth kitchen workflow during peak hours
  • Follow instructions from management and cooperate with canteen staff


Requirements

  • Proven experience as a Canteen Chef / Cook / Kitchen Cook
  • Experience cooking for large groups (500–1000 pax preferred)
  • Knowledge of Chinese / local / mixed cuisine is an advantage
  • Familiar with food hygiene and safety standards
  • Able to work shifts, weekends, or public holidays if required
  • Physically fit and able to work in a fast-paced kitchen

  • Good cooking and time-management skills
  • Cost-conscious and organized
  • Able to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Team player with positive attitude
